Travelling Europe – our most memorable pictures of 2017

While approaching the new year, we love to reflect on our past travel year. Scrolling through the photos of the great places we have been in the past year, there are a couple of pictures that stand out.

Our year in pictures

While we are already planning our trips for next year, we love to inspire others with our journeys. While all our trips are memorable to us, this is a selection of pictures that we have exceptionally fond memories from.

Winter in Copenhagen

Morning in Copenhagen

On a cold morning in January, we strolled along the streets of Copenhagen when snow began to fall, followed closely after by some beams of sunlight. We stood along the quiet streets alongside this canal for a while, witnessing how the weather changed.

Sunset in Hamburg

Sunset in Hamburg

The unique appeal of Hamburg is to be witnessed for yourself, but as we stood on top of the innovative Elbphilharmonie concert hall, the sun started to set over the harbour. Watching over the city in such a way, with harbour cranes in the background and standing on on this state-of-the-art building, symbolized just how different Hamburg is.

Inside Old Trafford

Entering the Old Trafford stadium in Manchester

Without knowing what to expect, we travelled to Manchester. We were positively surprised and enjoyed every minute of our stay, but one moment really stood out. Being both interested in Premier League football, we visited Old Trafford, the famous stadium of the Manchester United football team. The goosebumps we had while entering the stadium, seeing all the things we usually see on television, is something we will not soon forget.

Prague’s architecture

Streets of Prague

We heard many things about Prague. Prague would be beautiful. Prague would really impress us. We would enjoy our time so much. After our visit we must conclude, they are all true. We loved Prague. Maybe not the crowded hotspots like the castle or in front of the Astronomical Clock, but wandering around the small streets always paid off. We couldn’t get enough of those cobbled streets, colourful buildings and impressive architecture.

The small streets of Lisbon

Lisbon streets

It’s not hard to fall in love with Lisbon. The sunny weather and laid-back lifestyle definitely helps, but what we enjoyed most were our walks through the little backstreets. Walking up and down the narrow cobbled streets in a setting of laundry drying outside colourful small houses was like from a movie.

The magical world of Nantes

Mechanical elephant in Nantes

During the Summer months, we went on a road trip through France. One of our many stops was the harbour city Nantes, where we found this spectacular mechanical elephant. In fact, the entire old dockyard has been transformed into a magical phantasy world. It was nothing like we’ve seen before and we absolutely loved it!

Madrid by night

Madrid Temple of Debod

We found our final sunny days of the year in Madrid. Despite enjoying the city, we couldn’t help noticing the busy street life. Especially during the evening, the city really seems to wake up… That’s when we found the Parque del Oeste. Apart from a beautiful ancient Egyptian Temple, we also found a peaceful spot here. Aside from the water pond that surrounds the temple, we ended a great day without all the hustle and bustle of the city centre.

A hidden square in London

Neal's Yard London

A city we visit each year is London. Each year we discover new things. And each new thing makes us realise once again how much we enjoy this city. Covent Garden has been known to us since our first visit, but this small, well-hidden square was a welcome surprise. Sipping a coffee at Neal’s Yard while enjoying some Winter sun was a new, enjoyable way of spending a morning in London.
